La Antigua Guatemala (generally known as Antigua) is a small city, nestled in the
central mountain range of Guatemala, surrounded by three volcanoes; Agua, Fuego and
Acatenango. Antigua is famous for its well-preserved Spanish Renaissance architecture,
picturesque cobblestone streets, Baroque facades, and spectacular ruins of churches and monasteries, dating from the Colonial era. In 1979, Antigua was declared a World Cultural and Natural Heritage site ( Patriṃnio de la Humanidad).
